Consulting on Tropical, Subtropical, and Temperate Maize Breeding with special emphasis on utilizing the best maize germplasm available in the world and the best breeding techniques to increase genetic gains over time, preserving and or increasing genetic diversity.

• Consulting for large national private seed companies in Latin America and Southeast Asia on their corn breeding programs.
• Advising a seed company in the acquisition of seed companies.
• Advising the Verde Valley Archaelogy Center in the avaliation of Hopi corn accessions (Camp Verde, Arizona, USA).

• 55 Years of experience in Tropical, Sub-tropical and Temperate Maize and Sorghum Breeding
• 39 years working in Global Maize Seed Companies (Dekalb, Cargill and Monsanto)
• Participated in the Implementation Team of the Maize and Sorghum National Research Center (EMBRAPA-BRAZIL)
• 23 years of experience working in PPP's (Public Private Partnership- WEMA, GEM and CIMMYT)
• Known authority in Global Maize Germplasm
• Participated in 2 CIMMYT Global Research Review Teams (1996 and 2002)
• Many maize inbreds and hybrids developed (directly or through teams led by Walter) in Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Kenya, Uganda, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Japan, China, United States.
• Contracted in 2017 by an international bank to split the germplasm bought by a multinational seed company in over a 1.1 billion dollar deal
• GEM-Germplasm Enhancement of Maize (a maize-seed companies and US universities project funded by the USDA). Participated during 15 years in the Technical Steering Committee, including 10 years as Chair. Still active with this project helping with international germplasm acquisition and international cooperator management.
