In the 25 years of the GEM Project, there were 3 TSG Chairs:- Wilfredo Salihuana (center), Thomas Hoegemeyer (right), and Walter Trevisan (left). I was GEM (Germplasm Enhancement of Maize Project) Technical Steering Group Chair from 2013 to 2023. This picture was taken at 2018 GEM & Iowa State University Field Day commemorating 25 years of the GEM Project.

The adaptation of maize plants to the right environment and to the present-day farmer's needs is a very important part of maize breeding nowadays, even with the advent of new molecular breeding techniques. Note-taking by the breeders in the field is still strategically important!
